Make no mistake. I love Mindy Klasky....and pretty much anything paranormal she writes. Unfortunately, this short story set in the "As You Wish" world doesn't really read like a short story. It reads like a truncated book--a quick draft to get a story on paper to be fleshed out later. I seriously wish she had kept it to be fleshed out for a series featuring the genie Jaze and his/her lamp wielding humans. I think I would have loved it.Product details

This introduction to a modern day Genie in a lantern is the first of a 4 book series. Although brief, it is filled with angst, paranormal, and humor. It is a delightful story with a good old-fashioned moral to it, reminiscent of Aesop Fables in a modern world. The author has done a convincing job of making the paranormal element seem possible. This lighthearted book sets the stage for the three in depth books to follow.

A different type of fairytale. Definitely worth the read. Take some time to relax and read a quick book today.
It was too short, all the warmth and emotion seemed sucked out of this story. It read like an abridged version of a full-length book. The main character was mean, selfish. I am being generous giving three stars because obviously the writer can write; she just comes across as lazy. It annoys me that the writing could have been so much better, and isn't.
I was looking for something short and funny to read while taking care of a family member, and this filled the bill as a humorous distraction. I wish it was a bit longer -- I would have enjoyed more detail and character development. However, it is the beginning of a series and I did like it enough to read the next volume. (I would enjoy an entire series about the wait staff in that restaurant!)
